The nine numbers on the enneagram are divided into 3 triads:
The BODY/GUT Triad
The HEART Triad
The HEAD Triad
Each Triad is made up of three numbers on the Enneagram. Within each Triad, the three numbers are driven in different ways by an emotion related to a part of the body known as the “center of intelligence”...it’s another way of describing how you habitually take in, process and respond to life. ✨
THE BODY/GUT TRIAD

The GUT TRIAD is made up of 8’s, 9’s and 1’s. This is the "instinctive" center that is drives our physical movements.
This triad, also known as the ANGER triad, because these numbers are driven by anger but process it differently:
8’s externalize anger: direct & explosive - will “hit back” at life
9’s forget anger: push it down until they snap! They will “Back off” from life
1’s internalize anger: controlled; they will try to “fix” life
They take in and respond to life with intuitive instincts and use tactile engagement, or at the “gut” or “body” level. They need to maintain a sense of CONTROL. At their best, they want to better the world; at their worst, everything annoys them.
They tend to express themselves honestly and directly. They usually don’t know what to do with their feelings, so they tend to disassociate from them. They tend to believe that vulnerable feelings make them weak and are a sign that they are flawed, so they will try to repress this fear, which will then lead to anger.
GROWTH: This triad needs must learn to access and trust their own feelings! And in order to find inner peace, they need to practice moments of STILLNESS (not moving).
THE HEART TRIAD

The HEART TRIAD is made up of 2’s, 3’s and 4’s.
This triad, also known as the FEELING triad, because these numbers are driven by feelings & emotional impulses, but process these drives differently:
2’s focus outwardly on the feelings of others: they want to be loved for WHO they are - pose as lovable and helpful
3’s have trouble recognizing their own feelings or of others: they are concerned they’re more admired than loved - play the role that goes over best
4’s concentrate on their own feelings: they worry there is no one who can truly love them for what makes them SPECIAL - put in an appearance of someone special or unique.
They take in and relate to life from their heart; they FEEL their way through life. Tend to teeter between needing CONNECTION with others and COMPARISON with others for self-worth.
They tend to be more image-conscious than other numbers; are likely to have an overwhelming social presence and emotional presence. Tend to be out of touch with their own emotions to seek connection with others to experience their own feelings. When HEALTHY, they are a source love in the world and bring balance. When UNHEALTHY, they lose their sense of self by comparing themselves to others, which leads to SHAME & FEAR that they are unworthy and unlovable.
GROWTH: This triad needs must learn to access and trust their own feelings! And in order to find inner peace, they need to practice moments of SOLITUDE (being alone).
THE HEAD TRIAD

The HEAD TRIAD is made up of 5’s, 6’s and 7’s.
This triad, also known as the FEAR triad, because these numbers are driven by fear of pain, but process this drive differently:
5’s externalizes fear: they analyze everything to predict future outcomes - reduce pain as “illogical” - try to gain correct knowledge
6’s internalizes fear: they are on constant alert and contingency plan - see pain as a destabilizing threat - tend to link up with an authority figure or group to overcome fears
7’s forgets their fear: they have a compulsion to to maintain opportunity to experience freedom - see pain as a freedom limiter and will try to reject it - deny & avoid pain by creating fun & fantasy
These Head types take in and relate to the world from their mind; they assess and address everything as an assault on their inner state and believe competency is the cure for instability!
MASTERING THEIR ENVIRONMENT = SECURITY & SELF-PRESERVATION
They tend to think and PLAN CAREFULLY before they act. Forecasting helps them attain a sense of safety. ... Head people are most afraid of their own PAIN and think they aren’t able to emotionally work through it, so they avoid or minimize it. They tend to be obsessed with quieting this inner distress and methodically face life’s problems by searching for solutions, yet have a hard time taking action.
GROWTH: This Triad needs to practice and grow in accessing their fears and pain and get in touch with their own feelings! And in order to find inner peace, they need to practice moments of SILENCE (being quiet).
